Kazakhstan to provide further compensation to flood victims

The situation with floods in Kazakhstan is gradually stabilizing. Water levels are receding in the Akmola, Aktobe, Karagandy, Kostanai, and Pavlodar regions, as well as in the cities of Petropavl and Kulsary, where the situation was particularly difficult. Since March, more than 119,000 people have been evacuated in advance from the flood-affected areas, as reported by Kazakh Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov at a government meeting. Specialists are currently eliminating the consequences of the natural disaster. Mechanisms for the prompt resolution of housing issues in the flooded regions have been developed. Selection of land plots for the construction of new houses is ongoing, with works already underway in the Aktobe region. Flood victims in the Akmola, Karagandy, and Kostanai regions have been presented with keys to new housing. Notably, the rules and procedure for compensating the damage have also been approved.

“Nearly 11,000 families have received a payment of 100 monthly calculation indexes. This is just the beginning of an extensive work. Payments worth up to 150 monthly calculation indexes will be provided as well. Thus, people will be able to purchase essential items, including refrigerators, tables, chairs, cookware, and clothing. Besides, entrepreneurs will be compensated for losses. Overall, assistance will be provided to all those affected,” Bektenov said.
