President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev paid a state visit to Uzbekistan, where he was personally welcomed at the airport by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. During the talks, the two leaders discussed the future prospects for the Kazakh-Uzbek strategic partnership and alliance.
The leaders of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan also
participated in the second meeting of the Supreme Interstate Council. Tokayev
noted that, given the challenging international situation, the countries need
to strengthen cooperation, particularly in trade.
«Measures will have to be taken to develop bilateral
trade, identify new growth opportunities, expand the range of goods, and
stimulate non-resource exports. In this regard, it is important to successfully
implement the program to increase mutual trade turnover to $10 billion, as
previously agreed. Practical results are expected from the work of the Council
of Regional Heads being established today, as well as from other bilateral
mechanisms, including the Business Council and the joint trading company
UzKazTrade,» he said.
Tokayev
noted that agriculture offers significant potential for cooperation. He
proposed creating full production chains for processing meat, grain, and
oilseeds, as well as developing livestock farming. Furthermore, he highlighted
opportunities for joint work in the extraction and processing of rare earth
metals and expanded industrial cooperation, with
78 joint projects currently underway. Transit and transport potential also remain priorities. Tokayev invited
Uzbekistan to work together at the ports of Aktau and Kuryk to jointly develop
the Trans-Caspian Corridor.
«In the first nine months of this year, the
volume of rail traffic between our countries increased by more than 15% and
exceeded 22 million tonnes. It was agreed to continue jointly improving the
tariff policy, enhancing cargo transportation conditions, and modernizing
border crossing points,» the President noted.
«The results of the state visit of the President of Kazakhstan, esteemed Kassym-Jomart Kemelevich, once again clearly confirmed the high level of allied relations between our countries. This visit became an important event in the new chapter of our multifaceted cooperation and gave a powerful impetus to its expansion. The agreements reached and documents signed will undoubtedly give concrete substance to our partnership, open new horizons for joint projects, and create a solid foundation for the sustainable development of the two brotherly nations,» Mirziyoyev stated.
Following
the talks, the Presidents launched
seven joint projects worth $1.2 billion online, ranging
from industry and logistics to finance and construction. Mirziyoyev awarded
Tokayev the Order of Friendship of the highest degree. The two leaders
adopted a Joint Statement and signed several key documents, including the
establishment of the Council of
Regional Heads. Alongside this, 14 additional
intergovernmental and interdepartmental agreements and
memoranda were concluded.
