The situation in Syria, confidence-building measures, including a prisoner exchange and the resumption of the Syrian Constitutional Committee in Geneva - these and other issues will be discussed at the 16th international meeting on Syria. Its next round will be held tomorrow in the capital of Kazakhstan. Closed discussions among the meeting participants will take place today. Among them are Geir Pedersen, Special Envoy of UN Secretary-General for Syria, representative from the armed opposition Ahmad Toma, as well as delegates from the guarantor countries of Iran, Russia and Turkey. The representatives of the UN, Jordan, Lebanon and Iraq will act as observers. Bilateral and trilateral consultations, talks with the Syrian parties and contacts with observers are scheduled for tomorrow. On July 9 there will be a continuation of consultations and a plenary session. In addition, a meeting of the Working Group on Forcibly Detained Persons will be held as part of the Astana talks.
