New version of Kazakh alphabet in Latin script to be presented to National Commission

The new version of Kazakh alphabet in the Latin-based style will be presented to the National Commission at the end of January, Chairperson of the Language Policy Committee of the Kazakh Ministry of Culture and Sports Adilbek Kaba announced. He said that more than 40 versions of the alphabet have been submitted so far. All of them were thoroughly studied and reviewed at public meetings and international conferences. After careful analysis, the scientists proposed to choose the latter version.

“We are already at the finish line. After numerous discussions, we presented the new alphabet in Latin script to the Head of State. Kassym-Jomart Tokayev entirely approved it. In addition to the alphabet itself, we also prepared the keyboard and spelling rules. During this month, we intend to submit them for consideration to the National Commission,” Kaba said.

The relevant ministry pointed out that after the approval of the new alphabet and its spelling rules, a lot of work will be carried out with the population. Teachers will be among the first ones to be trained. Experts say that the transition of the state language to the Latin-script will be carried out in stages and in a balanced manner.
