The monument to great Kazakh poet Abai Kunanbaiuly was unveiled in Tbilisi. The monument, created by a Georgian sculptor, was erected in one of the squares of the capital. Kazakh Minister of Industry and Infrastructure Development Kairbek Uskenbayev and Deputy Minister of Economy of Georgia Genadi Arveladze took part in the ceremony. According to the participants, the image of the Kazakh philosopher will always symbolize the friendship of two peoples. Moreover, the avenue next to the square, where the monument was erected, will also be named after Abai.
“This year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. The unveiling of this monument will build another spiritual bridge of friendship between our peoples,” said Baurzhan Mukhamedzhanov, Kazakh Ambassador to Georgia.
“I found out about this philosopher at the embassy of Kazakhstan in Georgia. I’m grateful for this. I’m keeping Abai’s book, issued ahead of his 175th birth anniversary, in an honorary place in my office. And I’ve read it all. I really like his philosophical ideals, his poetic creativity. I’m glad that now his monument decorates this square,” shared resident of Tbilisi Erekle Makashvili.
Abai’s books are in demand in Georgia. Thus, the works of the Kazakh writer, which were issued last year in Georgian language, are planned to be published in an additional edition.
