Kazakhstan wins over the hearts of foreigners, who fall so in love with the culture and traditions of the country of the Great Steppe that they decide to live here. Mexican citizen Sandra Real wants to tell the whole world about the distinctive features of Kazakhstan. She has been living in Nur-Sultan for four years now. She has been dreaming of visiting the country since she was 10, when she first read about Kazakhstan and fell in love with sketches of ripe apples and snow-white mountains. Real completed her master’s degree at Nazarbayev University, and after that she stayed in the country for work. She says that she doesn’t want to leave the country at all. Moreover, she intends to popularize the national drink kumys around the globe.
“It’s a symbol of health, a symbol of culture, because kumys in literature is described as a drink with therapeutic properties. It can help in the treatment of tuberculosis. The greatest advantage of Kazakhstan is its very hospitable people. The city where I live is very interesting, because it is a place of contrasts. There are very modern buildings here, but also the steppe is very close. There are contrasts in Kazakhstan, in general. There’s a desert, there are trees and mountains. Very beautiful places,” Sandra Real noted.
Real also likes the melodiousness of the Kazakh language. While mastering it, she simultaneously runs online courses where she teaches the Kazakh language to her fellow citizens in Mexico. The latter were encouraged to learn the language by their love for Kazakh singer Dimash Kudaibergen.
Brazilian citizen Roberto Santos has been living in Kazakhstan for eight years. He has no plans of leaving the country either. He says that Nur-Sultan’s climate is perfect for him.
“I don’t really like summer. That’s true. If I had the opportunity to make it freezing all year around, I would. I would press the button and select winter over summer. Always. I live here and I’m happy here. And I plan to continue living here. I don’t think I’ll be moving to Brazil in 10 or 15 years. I might be going there for a week or two, or a month, but then I start missing Kazakhstan, and I want to go back. Which is why I am not planning on moving anywhere from here,” Santos said.
Santos is a cook with many years of experience. Before coming to Kazakhstan, he lived in many countries, including Canada, the United States and Russia. But he decided to settle in Kazakhstan. Here he started a family and opened his own restaurant. Like Real, Santos calls hospitality, delicacy and kind heartedness of Kazakh residents the greatest advantage of living in the country. This is what creates a special atmosphere in Kazakhstan.
