A new city has appeared in
Kazakhstan. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev signed a corresponding decree on
changes to the administrative-territorial unit of the Almaty region. The
village of Zhetigen has been granted the status of a city of regional
significance and renamed Alatau. According to the Kazakh Ministry of National
Economy, the creation of the new city will attract investments and technologies
as well as promote entrepreneurial activity, contributing to the improvement of
the economic stability of the region. It is noteworthy that the entire
territory of the city of Alatau and part of Konayev city are included in the
special economic zone. There are plans to implement over 170 projects worth
12.5 trillion tenge in 17 priority areas.
