A large-scale digital transformation of the public sector
continues in Kazakhstan, including enhancements to the unified online platform Gov.kz.
As part of the shift to digital government services, the portal has been
adapted for users with visual impairments. It is now more user-friendly, with
improved font sizes, color schemes, and contrast. Special emphasis has been
placed on accessibility features for the visually impaired - additional markers
on pages can be detected by screen-reading software and read aloud.
«We launched it just recently, earlier this year. What we're
talking about is a more detailed and in-depth effort - specifically, the
markers embedded in text and buttons that enable the specialized software used
by our citizens to read this information and convert it into audio. It also
includes voice control features, allowing users to navigate the portal through
speech. None of this was available before,» said Rostislav Konyashkin, Kazakh
Vice Minister of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry.
In addition, the Ministry plans to integrate KazLLM, a large
language model based on artificial intelligence, into Gov.kz. It will enable
the rapid processing of vast amounts of data and automatic translation of
content into Kazakh, Russian, and English. Experts say this will be supported
by a supercomputer that was recently launched in the country.
