About 400,000 people with special needs will be able to take part in the referendum on June 5. A training seminar for representatives of public associations was held at the site of the Central Election Commission, at which the issues of accessibility of polling stations were discussed. They also spoke about how the electoral process should be organized in general so that every citizen could freely cast their vote.
“For example, not every polling station had a magnifying glass, or perhaps, the stencils for people with visual impairments were difficult to understand, or rather, they were not, but certain explanation of a methodological nature was necessary. Some people with disabilities wanted the taxi for transportation of people with visual impairments and wheelchair users, to work on Sunday - this is not common in every regions,” said Lyazzat Kaltayeva, member of Senate, the Upper House of Kazakh Parliament.
