The ins and outs of photography - The famous National Geographic photographer Gerd Ludwig conducts masterclasses for Kazakh schoolchildren. Each lesson for 40 students of Nazarbayev Intellectual Schools from different cities of Kazakhstan begins with an error analysis session. This time, young photographers, together with a tutor, discussed in detail their homework, which was taking pictures of nature. This is how they hone their skills.
“We began to explore new terms and new possibilities through the PhotoComp software. We are glad that we can learn this art not only from Kazakh professionals, but also from those from abroad. For example, Gerd Ludwig taught us to apply skills in practice, as well as explained to us what exposure, aperture and time delay are,” said Diana Bekisheva, student at the Nazarbayev Intellectual School.
Each photo must be unique and intriguing, Ludwig says. A National Geographic photographer has been travelling the world for half a century. And he’s willing to pass all that he’s learned to the younger generation.
“Only a confident person can share his knowledge and sometimes secrets of his favorite profession with others. All these children are talented, and their first steps in photography are successful. I see sparkles in their eyes, they enjoy taking pictures. Now their task is to become the best at what they do. They can do it!” noted Gerd Ludwig, photographer for National Geographic Magazine.
After completing the workshops, students plan to open photography clubs in their schools and share what they’ve learned with others, especially that a picture is worth a thousand words.
