«My Astana: From the Past to the Future» photo exhibition opens in Kazakh capital

Historic buildings, memorable events, cityscapes, and iconic figures - all captured in archival photographs. The exhibition titled «My Astana: From the Past to the Future», dedicated to the capital day, features unique works by renowned photojournalist and local historian Nurmukhamat Imamov. The display highlights key moments in the city’s history. Nearly 300 digitized photographs illustrate how the city’s appearance has changed over several decades - from Tselinograd to modern-day Astana.

«The photo exhibition offers an opportunity to trace the history of our capital’s development. The photographs by Nurmukhamat Imamov are more than just pictures - they are living history of Astana, captured through the lens of his deep knowledge and sincere love for his homeland. This exhibition is a true gift for everyone who loves Astana. It not only allows visitors to enjoy beautiful images, but also invites them to reflect on the journey we have taken together,» said Bakytzhan Temirbolat, Director of the Presidential Center of Kazakhstan.

Visitors show particular interest in rare photographs featuring writer Sabit Mukanov, singer Roza Baglanova, cosmonaut Viktor Gorbatko, singer Iosif Kobzon, and other prominent figures. According to museum experts, these photographs help preserve the memory of the culture, architecture, and everyday life of that era.

«This is the airport building that was located in the area around Saraishyk and Kabanbai streets. This is the house that now hosts the Saken Seifullin Museum. Other notable landmarks include the Ishim Hotel, now known as Ramada, which is located opposite the city mayor’s office. These are significant sites that longtime residents of our city can easily recognize at a glance,» said Aigerim Sartayeva, lead expert at the Presidential Center of Kazakhstan.

The exhibition was initiated by the photographer’s son, Rinat Imamov. He now plans to organize a separate thematic display dedicated to his father’s 100th anniversary. The photo exhibition will run until August 10.
