An auditorium named after Malik Gabdullin, Hero
of the Soviet Union, has been opened at Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical
University. Gabdullin, a scientist, writer, and war veteran, graduated from
this university and later served as its rector for 12 years. Over 200
university students and teachers joined the front during the war, with nine
graduates awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union. To honor their legacy,
a memorial plaque titled «Bow to Heroism» has been installed on campus.
«Our university is the first higher
educational institution in Kazakhstan. We aim to honor the memory of all our
graduates, students, and teachers who went to the front, and to pass their
example of selfless feat on to the youth,» said Bolat Tlep, Rector of the
Kazakh National Pedagogical University.
A memorial honouring Taimbet Komekbayev, Hero
of the Soviet Union, was unveiled in his native village in the Kyzylorda
region. After the war, Komekbayev devoted himself to agriculture and made
notable contributions, for which he was also awarded the title of Hero of
Labour.
One of the streets in Taldykorgan bears the
name of Sagadat Nurmagambetov, Hero of the Soviet Union and Kazakhstan (Khalyk
Kaharmany), as well as the first Kazakh Minister of Defense. He made invaluable
