Mazhilis discusses development of Kazakhstan’s transport and logistics sector

Artificial intelligence is being introduced into Kazakhstan’s railway sector, as announced by Minister of Transport Marat Karabayev during the Government’s meeting in the Mazhilis, the Lower House of the Kazakh Parliament. He emphasized that digital solutions were developed with the involvement of international companies. As a result, this will enhance efficiency and optimize processes in the railway sector, from customs procedures to transit operations. Additionally, digital technologies are being implemented in the highway sector. For instance, the «E-Joldar» system is currently under development. The aviation sector also holds significant potential. According to Karabayev, the country will soon become a centre for maintenance and repair of civilian and military aircraft in the region.

«Aktau Airport is one of the promising multimodal aviation hubs. Its main advantage is its accessibility for all types of transport and its proximity to Europe - only a three-hour flight away. In addition to the cargo aviation hub, YDA, Turkish Technic, and ASFAT companies are planning to build an aircraft maintenance and repair center, along with training centers, at the airport. The maintenance center will service both civilian and military aircraft from Kazakhstan, Russia, and Central Asian countries,» noted Kazakh Minister of Transport Marat Karabayev.

As part of the improvement of seaport infrastructure, the country has begun the construction of a container hub. This is a joint project with China. Also, the creation of an additional terminal with a capacity of 300,000 containers is being developed with the involvement of German, American, and French investors. External terminals are also being modernized. Next year, the construction of additional facilities will commence at the Azerbaijan’s port of Alat, near Moscow, in Tashkent, and in Belarus. As a result, the capacity of Kazakhstan’s external terminals will increase fivefold.

«Significant growth in transit traffic is anticipated by 2029, driven by the development of transport infrastructure. Specifically, rail transit traffic is expected to increase by 65 percent, while container transportation should rise by 54 percent, reaching two million containers. The volume of road transit is projected to grow sixfold, reaching 29 million tonnes. Air transport transit is expected to double, amounting to 300,000 tonnes,» Karabayev added.
