Kyrgyz sculptor awarded Kazakh ‘Dostyk’ order

A well-known Kyrgyz sculptor Tamila Mamatova became a Cavalier of the Order of Dostyk, II Degree. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev signed a corresponding decree. The artist was distinguished for her contribution to peace, friendship and cooperation building between the two nations. Kazakh people got acquainted with Mamatova after she made a bust of Abai and donated it to a college in Kokshetau a year ago. The next work was a bust of Mukhtar Auezov. The writer’s house museum on the coast of Lake Issyk Kul in Cholpon-Ata city is currently being reconstructed. The bust of Auezov will be ready as early as July.

“This order is a great inspiration for me. When I created the bust of Abai Kunanbaiuly, I made him exactly the way I imagined. Later I continued, so to speak, a literary series, starting to make busts of Chingiz Aitmatov and Tattybyubyu Tursunbayeva. Abai Kunanbaiuly and Mukhtar Auezov are very important figures for the Kazakh people,” Mamatova said.
