Kazakhstan and Türkiye will cooperate in the field of
quarantine and plant protection. The Mazhilis, the Lower House of the Kazakh
Parliament, has ratified the corresponding agreement and sent it to the Senate,
the Upper House, for further consideration. The document was signed in May 2022
in Ankara. The two countries have agreed to work together to ensure
phytosanitary safety and prevent the import and spread of quarantine pests
within their territories. The lists of pests, as well as legal acts, will be
shared on an ongoing basis. Additionally, Kazakh and Turkish research
institutes and organizations in the field of quarantine and plant protection
will develop their partnership. The agreement also regulates the requirements
for imported batches of quarantine products, accompanying documents, and the
conditions for cargo transit between Kazakhstan and Türkiye.
«Over a three-year period, approximately 700,000 tonnes of
plant products were exported to Türkiye, while imports amounted to more than
40,000 tonnes of various agricultural crops and 2.7 million pieces of planting
and seed material. Quarantine-regulated products transported between our
countries undergo phytosanitary quarantine control. The adoption of the draft
law to ratify the agreement provides an opportunity for the plant quarantine
services of both countries to take cooperation to the next level,» said Kazakh
Vice Minister of Agriculture Yermek Kenzhekhanuly.
