Kazakhstan to launch flood forecasting system by year-end

Kazakhstan plans to construct 42 new reservoirs and reconstruct 37 existing ones, along with around 14,500 kilometers of irrigation canals. These measures are outlined in the Comprehensive Water Sector Development Plan, designed for 2024-2028. The government reviewed measures to enhance flood forecasting. To this end, a special information system is being developed to visualize potential flooding risk zones on a map. The project is set to launch in test mode by year-end. Additionally, the relevant ministry reported on equipping rescuers with uniforms and special gear.

«We are acquiring high-quality, specialized automotive and engineering equipment, including watercraft, aircraft, and helicopters. Training programs for pilots will cover night flights and operations in challenging weather conditions. The approach is being restructured, and a unique fire station is being established that will be staffed with firefighters, doctors, and rescuers. This initiative will enhance efficiency and enable timely rescue measures for citizens,» said Kazakh Minister for Emergency Situations Chingis Arinov.
