A digital map with data on road defects is being introduced
in Kazakhstan. The project was presented by KazAvtoZhol. The platform compiles
information such as accident frequency at specific locations, pothole
dimensions, and even winter snow levels - all in one place. This allows
specialists to analyze issues and address them in a timely manner. During its
seven-month pilot phase, the system has already helped reduce spending on
construction materials. Currently, data is collected and uploaded manually. The
process is expected to be fully automated in the future using artificial
intelligence.
«Previously, inspection teams conducted on-site measurements
manually. The volume of defects, for example, could be inaccurate when the
human factor is involved. One of the key benefits of the new system is the
elimination of this factor, allowing for more precise defect measurements. For
example, if materials were previously estimated for 1,000 square meters, the
system can now determine that only 800 square meters are needed. This results
in cost savings, faster response times, and more targeted repairs,» said Syrym
Khamzin, Deputy Chairman of the KazAvtoZhol National Company.
