A total of 288 children of ethnic
Kazakhs from 12 countries have arrived in Kazakhstan for a summer camp
vacation. Each visitor can enjoy a two-week stay in the picturesque surroundings
of the Burabai resort area. Their primary goal is to learn more about their
historic homeland. Notably, the camp annually attracts a large number of
children, with only seven boys and girls visiting over 20 years ago, in 2003.
To date, admission to the camp requires passing a competitive selection
process, with priority given to those who have achievements in science,
culture, or sports. Organizers also aim to expand the geographic diversity of
participating countries.
«We all know that children are
our future. When they come to their historic homeland, they meet kids their own
age, ethnic Kazakhs from different countries, and form friendships. We live in
the age of the virtual world, where almost everyone uses gadgets and
smartphones, often missing out on real-life interactions. This camp is a great
place for unity and cohesion,» said Zautbek Turisbekov, First Deputy Chairman
of the World Association of Kazakhs.
At the age of three, camp
participant Tatti Arman moved to Türkiye with her family. Nevertheless,
Kazakhstan has always been her cherished homeland, and she wishes to tie her
future to it.
«I came from Türkiye, though I am
Kazakh. This place is really nice; the fact that it is in front of the lake,
it’s super nice and pretty, and everyone here is so welcoming. Even though my
Kazakh might not be the best, they help me out a lot. Usually I live in Türkiye;
however, it is not going to change the fact that I am not Turkish. So, coming
back here, I still count as Kazakh, and I am Kazakh. And you know, I was born
here and I am from here,» Arman said.
The camp provides all the
necessary amenities for children to enjoy a comfortable stay, including fresh
air, picturesque nature, and immersion in the local culture. Moreover, members
of the World Association of Kazakhs are ready to offer full support to those
interested in pursuing education in Kazakhstan in the future.
