Over 5.5 million people voted for the construction of a
nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan. The Central Referendum Commission (CRC)
announced the final results, revealing that more than 63 percent of eligible
citizens participated in the voting. Of them, over 71 percent cast their votes
in favor of the NPP construction. It is noteworthy that, alongside
representatives of civil society, the event was monitored by 177 observers from
30 foreign countries, observer missions from four international organizations,
and 200 foreign journalists.
«It is worth noting that, according to the
assessment of observers from foreign states and international organizations,
the referendum was conducted in accordance with current national legislation
and the international obligations accepted by the Republic of Kazakhstan. The
active participation of civil society representatives was observed, along with
the provision of favorable conditions for citizens to make an informed choice,»
said CRC Chairman Nurlan Abdirov.
