This year, Kazakhstan plans to introduce new energy
capacities of 621 megawatts to meet the needs of the economy, with an
additional 2.6 gigawatts expected in 2026. Energy development issues were
discussed at a national meeting chaired by Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov. In
total, 68 energy projects will be implemented in the country over the next four
years. By 2035, existing power plants will undergo modernization and expansion.
Notably, there are currently 227 power plants operating in the country. Another
important project, the integration of the western region’s power grids into a
unified network, is set to be implemented in 2027. As part of digitalization
efforts, the transformation of the State Energy Register into a Unified
Information System in the field of energy saving is underway.
«No digital technologies can develop without sufficient
electricity generation; therefore, we need to increase electricity generation
in our country by any means now and in the future. The Head of State has
recently stated that the goal is to become an energy-surplus country and an
exporter of electricity,» Bektenov noted.
