Kazakhstan to develop air hubs and small aviation

Kazakhstan is set to expand small aviation to unlock the potential of a number of resort areas. It also plans to enhance air hubs to double air cargo transportation, which currently stands at nearly 150,000 tonnes, over the next four years. The need to create conditions for expanding the capacity of domestic air harbors was outlined by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev in his annual state-of-the-nation address. The Ministry of Transport noted that work in this direction has begun. To implement the instructions, the ministry listed several necessary measures, including digitalization of processes, easing customs procedures, introducing free economic zones at airports, as well as increasing aviation fuel production and its availability for cargo flights.

«All these measures need to be implemented to achieve this indicator, and we are currently engaged in this work. A specific instruction was also given for the development of domestic flights. To date, these flights are growing rapidly, with an annual increase of nearly 20 percent in the passenger transport market. We plan to increase flights to tourist destinations such as Alakol, Balkhash, the Shchuchinsk-Burabai resort zone, and the Caspian Sea coast. Currently, there are 19 flights, with more, including subsidized ones, planned,» said Kazakh Vice Minister of Transport Talgat Lastayev.
