More than $2 billion and dozens of environmental initiatives. A total of 17 agreements were signed at the opening of the international exhibition of the Regional Ecological Summit in Astana. This is one of the largest packages of «green» agreements in Central Asia. The documents are aimed at cooperation in alternative energy and sustainable production. For example, Kazakhstan and Italy formalized cooperation in the field of ecology, including the exchange of technologies and the attraction of investments into green initiatives. Another memorandum provides for major investments in the energy sector. A 500-megawatt wind power plant worth about $645 million is to be built in the Karagandy region. Additional agreements are aimed at modernizing industrial enterprises with a transition to clean fuel. The list also includes a $650 million project for the production of potash fertilizers. In addition, documents were signed for the implementation of green aviation fuel projects, the development of carbon markets, and the introduction of forest-climate solutions aimed at reducing emissions.
«There are eight
main areas of this exhibition, including, of course, the protection of
ecosystems and animals listed in the Red Book, as well as water resources,
water quality, and land degradation. What makes this exhibition unique is that
it provides opportunities for B2B and B2G meetings. It also creates a platform
for signing agreements, finding new partners, and possibly even securing
financial opportunities, as investors are also present at the exhibition and
can identify projects to invest in,» noted Dilorom Sultamuratova, RES 2026 EXPO coordinator.
