Kazakhstan to deploy 500 military personnel and rescuers to combat western floods

Intensive flood prevention measures are underway in Oral as the water level in the Zhaiyk River has surpassed the critical mark of 8.5 meters, which led to the inundation of summer cottage areas. Over 16,000 people and more than 2,000 pieces of equipment, mobilized from other regions of Kazakhstan, are involved in reinforcing protection facilities. Kanat Bozumbayev, Deputy Prime Minister and deputy head of the national headquarters, has instructed to send an additional 500 military personnel and rescuers to the West Kazakhstan region to address the peak of flooding. It was decided to extend earthen dams along rivers in flood-prone areas by several more meters. Meanwhile, the situation in villages in western Kazakhstan remains stable and under control. Since the beginning of the flood period, over 136 kilometers of dams have been constructed in the region, including 45 kilometers along the Zhaiyk and Shagan rivers in Oral.
