Kazakhstan to begin shipbuilding

A shipbuilding plant may be established in Kazakhstan. The project is currently in the development stage, according to the country’s Ministry of Transport. The shipyard is planned for construction on the Caspian Sea coast, where the implementation of a container hub project at the Aktau port is also underway. It is expected to have a capacity of 300,000 twenty-foot containers. A joint venture with China will be created to implement the project, with investment coming from a Chinese company. Additionally, the Sarzha multifunctional marine terminal will be built at the Kuryk port, with construction already in progress. The project will be financed by an Arab company. The Sarzha terminal will have an annual capacity of nearly 9.5 million tonnes and will feature grain, oil, and general cargo terminals. The project is scheduled for completion by 2027.
