Kazakhstan plans to
spend 1.7 trillion tenge on the development of single-industry towns. The
government has approved comprehensive four-year development plans for 10 such
settlements. They encompass 608 measures, including the construction and
renovation of healthcare, education, and sports facilities, as well as
factories and engineering infrastructure. These plans also include measures
aimed at developing small and medium-sized enterprises and the agro-industrial
sector, along with purchasing modern equipment. Additionally, the airport
reconstruction in Balkhash is among the measures. Upon the implementation of
all these efforts, a fourfold increase in tourist influx and business activity
is expected there. It bears noting that Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev
instructed a review of the state policy regarding single-industry towns. The
Ministry of National Economy is currently developing a corresponding roadmap,
which includes a unified list of state support measures and the creation of
industrial zones on the territory of all 27 single-industry towns across the
country.
