Kazakhstan intends to attract around $3 billion in
investments in the aviation industry. These funds will be used for the
construction of new airports in the tourist areas of Katon-Karagai, Zaisan,
Kenderli, as well as in Arkalyk. The investments will also support the
reconstruction of 10 runways, 10 terminals, and the renewal of the special
equipment fleet. Development issues were discussed at a meeting chaired by
Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov. Particular emphasis was placed on enhancing the
country’s role as an aviation hub, including the development of air hubs and
the modernization of ground infrastructure. The creation of a national cargo
carrier was also discussed. Its implementation will ensure the reorientation of
transit flows to Kazakhstan and strengthen the country’s position in the air
cargo market. Bektenov instructed that all preparatory processes be accelerated
to the fullest extent. Currently, the volume of air cargo transportation
amounts to about 58 million tonnes, with around 15% of shipments passing
through Kazakhstan’s airspace. The Ministry of Transport also reported a rise
in passenger traffic this year: domestic airlines carried over seven million
passengers, while airports served about 14.5 million people.
