Kazakhstan supports China’s global initiatives

Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev addressed a high-level meeting on the Global Development Initiative (GDI) held by China during the 80th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 80). He emphasized that Kazakhstan supports the GDI, which seeks to accelerate the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

«This initiative aligns with the Chinese latest strategically important proposal – the Global Governance Initiative (GGI) announced by Chairman Xi Jinping at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization’s Summit in Tianjin. GGI is designed to serve as a source of positive impact on a turbulent world, helping to make it more predictable and stable to better reflect the interests and aspirations of the majority of countries, with the United Nations playing a central role,» Tokayev said.

The Head of State expressed his gratitude to China for organizing an important and timely event. He noted that China’s proposals respond to geopolitical and economic challenges while promoting international cooperation, equality among nations, the rule of international law, and the protection of people’s interests. President Tokayev also underlined that the Global Governance Initiative is consistent with the goals of the Belt and Road strategy, which has already been joined by more than 150 countries.

«Moreover, GGI emphasizes the urgent need to ensure fair access to digital technologies, safe cyberspace and outer space. This is particularly relevant when it comes to the development of regulatory framework and ethical standards for the use of artificial intelligence. In this regard, Kazakhstan supports China’s proposal to establish a global organization for cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence,» Tokayev added.
