Members of the Senate, the Upper House of the Kazakh
Parliament, have approved the law transforming the Conference on Interaction
and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) into a full-fledged
international organization. The document will bring the working conditions of
Secretariat staff closer to global standards and strengthen the Organization's
potential. Notably, CICA, headquartered in Astana, comprises 28 member states,
representing 90% of the Asian continent. As a founding state, Kazakhstan places
special emphasis on the activities of the CICA Secretariat.
«The amendments to the Protocol aim to strengthen the
international status of staff members assigned to the Secretariat or working
under contract, in accordance with the practices of the United Nations and
other international organizations. The law also expands the privileges and
immunities granted to Secretariat staff, ensuring they are extended to all
employees, regardless of category or nationality,» said Senate member Darkhan
Kydyrali.
