Visiting the Baikonur Cosmodrome is a dream
for many Kazakh citizens and foreign tourists. Now, that dream can become a
reality. The place from which humanity first ventured into space will soon be
open to visitors eager to learn more about its history. To attract them,
Kazakhstan is developing a special concept to establish a sustainable tourism
ecosystem during the periods between rocket launches. This means that regular
tours will be conducted across the legendary complex. The tours will cover a
range of themes, including cultural, educational, scientific, and industrial
aspects. Additionally, Kazakh Tourism National Company will focus on fostering
Baikonur brand recognition, stating that a steady flow of tourists will help
improve the efficiency of the existing infrastructure.
«The primary goal, of course, is to increase
the number of tourists by approximately three to four times. According to
estimates, around 10,000 tourists currently visit the cosmodrome each year,
primarily during rocket launches. Our focus is on developing tourism during the
periods between launches. We understand that there may be only 10 to 12
launches per year, and during the rest of the time, the infrastructure,
including tourist facilities, remains underutilized. To promote tourism more
sustainably and ensure a more even distribution of visitors, we are developing
cultural routes, school programs, and comprehensive tour packages that enable
tourists to explore and appreciate this historic heritage,» said Daniel
Serzhanuly, Acting Chairman of the Kazakh Tourism National Company.
