Kazakhstan is
the leader in terms of investment by the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB). After
the first two years of implementing the EDB Strategy for 2022–2026, it is
expected that the investment volume in the country will surpass the plan by 70
percent, amounting to over $2 billion. This was announced during a meeting
between Kazakh Prime Minister Alikhan Smailov and EDB Chairman Nikolai Podguzov. It bears
noting that the financial institution is currently involved in funding the
expansion and modernization of the Almaty airport. Additionally, promising
projects include the construction of the Ayagoz-Bakhty railway line and a new
border crossing on the Kazakhstan-China border. The new infrastructure is
expected to increase cargo turnover by 20 million tonnes per year. Furthermore,
the EDB intends to participate in the reconstruction and expansion of the
Astrakhan-Mangyshlak main water pipeline. Overall, with the EDB’s financial
support, over 100 projects worth more than $5.5 billion have been implemented in
Kazakhstan in various sectors.
