Ecotourism gains popularity in Kazakhstan

A large world-class ski resort with 150 kilometers of slopes is set to be built in Almaty. It is expected to welcome up to five million visitors annually. This is provided for by the Comprehensive Plan for the Development of the Almaty mountain cluster. Another project focuses on developing the Mangystau tourist zone, which will improve access to the region’s unique landmarks and create conditions for the establishment of new facilities. Efforts are also underway to promote ecotourism through the development of national parks. Eight visitor centers have been built across the country, and the trails have been equipped with the necessary infrastructure.

«In 2024, 2.8 million people visited 14 national parks, marking an 18% increase compared to 2023. To meet the growing demand, plans are in place to equip each national park with basic tourist infrastructure and build new visitor centers. There is also a need to digitize the access system in all national parks, following the example of Burabai. Similar efforts will be carried out in other regions to develop various types of tourism,» said Kazakh Minister of Tourism and Sports Yerbol Myrzabossynov.
