Kazakh President awards champion of 14th Winter Paralympics

President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev awarded Yerbol Khamitov, a champion of the 14th Paralympic Winter Games, the Order of Barys, third class. The ceremony took place today at the Akorda. The Head of State emphasized that the world’s largest competition was a success for Kazakhstan – the athlete ably represented the country, winning both gold and bronze medals.

«This is a historic achievement for national para sport. Yerbol has shown the world the resilience, courage, and valor of the Kazakh people. Therefore, I would first like to express my sincere gratitude to you and the coaching staff. Before your departure for the Paralympic Games, I presented you with the turquoise flag of our country. You have fully justified the high trust placed in you and returned to Kazakhstan with victory. This outstanding result secured Kazakhstan 18th place in the overall standingsthe President said.

Tokayev also highlighted the role of coaches in Khamitovs Olympic success. He expressed gratitude to them, as well as to the doctors and other specialists who work with para athletes. The President noted that a country of equal opportunities for all—a Just Kazakhstan—is currently being built. According to him, the recently adopted new Constitution demonstrates the countrys creative potential. Kazakh para athletes, with their achievements, make a significant contribution to affirming the values of the state.

«The Basic Law defines the development of human capital, education, science, and innovation as strategic directions for the state. Particular attention is paid to maintaining public health. The main goal of the Constitution is to protect the country’s independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, as well as to ensure the rights and freedoms of citizens. Our urgent task is to widely explain and promote the fundamental principles of the Constitution both in our country and abroad,» Tokayev noted.

To date, the state provides comprehensive support to Paralympic sport. Funding for the sector has been increased. Last year alone, four modern inclusive sports complexes opened in Kazakhstan. Such centers, Tokayev said, will be built in all regions of the country. Paralympic champion Khamitov, in turn, expressed gratitude to the President for his high trust, pledging to continue striving for new victories for the country.
