Kazakhstan records highest number of domestic tourists in 2021

According to the statistics, the tourism industry in Kazakhstan is recovering. Thus, almost seven million people in the country vacationed last year, which is 35 percent higher than in 2020, and 5 percent higher than in the pre-covid 2019, the press service of the Kazakh Tourism National Company reported. Ecotourists, who visited specially protected natural areas, show the highest figures in the structure of inner tourist flow. Around one and a half million Kazakh residents visited these protected natural areas. The volume of services provided by resorts and other recreation areas amounted to 109 billion tenge (US$230.6 million), or 90 percent of the pre-covid period. There is also an increase in the number of foreign tourists, specialists said. 330,000 tourists arrived from abroad last year, which is 31 percent more comparing to 2020. It is noted that a visa-free regime with 74 countries was resumed only from the beginning of this year. A full recovery of inbound tourism is expected only in 2024, experts said.
