Kazakhstan is
planning to simplify the rules for granting and extending the Kandas status.
The country’s Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population has
presented a corresponding draft for public discussion. According to the
ministry, there is no need to reevaluate all the necessary documents when
extending the status, as they were carefully reviewed during its initial
conferment. This responsibility will now be transferred to the local executive
body, which was previously the task of a special commission. Overall, more than
16,000 ethnic Kazakhs have returned to their historical homeland and received
the Kandas status since the beginning of the year. Most of those relocating to
Kazakhstan are immigrants from Uzbekistan, with the rest coming from China,
Mongolia, Russia, Turkmenistan, and other countries.
