Kazakhstan plans to repair 7,000 kilometers of roads by year-end

Kazakhstan is set to repair 7,000 kilometers of roads by year-end. The reconstruction of major transport arteries such as the Karagandy – Almaty, Taldykorgan – Oskemen, and Aktobe – Atyrau – Astrakhan highways is nearing completion. According to the Kazakh Ministry of Transport, the ongoing work will reduce travel time, lower transportation costs, and improve road safety. The construction of a tunnel at the Shakpak Baba pass in the Turkistan region, a section of the Western Europe – Western China transport corridor, is also close to being finished. The construction of the road overpass at Shamalgan station in the Almaty region is planned to be completed this year. The new overpass aims to ensure safe and uninterrupted traffic flow across railway tracks. In the east of the country, a bridge over the Bukhtarma Reservoir is close to completion as well.

«As part of the road infrastructure improvement program until 2029, the Kazakh Ministry of Transport is set to upgrade over 4,000 kilometers of highways, including the Aktobe – Ulgaisyn and Karagandy – Zhezkazgan highways, as well as build a bypass around the city of Saryagash. These projects are planned to be implemented using EPCM contracts, where a single contract organization will be responsible for design, construction, and subsequent operation of the highways. Moreover, this year marked the launch of the Kyzylorda – Zhezkazgan project, aiming to connect southern regions with the country’s central part,» said Daulet Miramov, spokesperson for the Kazakh Ministry of Transport.
