Kazakhstan plans to build coal-to-gas plant

A coal-to-gas plant is planned for the Karagandy region, with a Chinese company as the investor. The new coal-chemical facility is expected to produce up to two billion cubic meters of gas per year. According to Jambulat Sarsenov, Deputy Chairman of the KAZENERGY Association, the project will give new momentum to the development of Kazakhstan’s coal-chemical industry. The launch of production will help attract modern technologies and strengthen the country’s export potential. Notably, Kazakhstan ranks among the world’s top 10 countries in terms of coal reserves, estimated at 33.6 billion tonnes.

«Coal-chemical production in China is developing rapidly across all areas. They are putting in every effort. Coal-chemical products often involve processes that require large amounts of water. Kazakhstan has vast coal reserves, and we need not only to observe but also to study this technology. This will only benefit us,» said  Jambulat Sarsenov, Deputy Chairman of the KAZENERGY Association.
