Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart
Tokayev took part in a meeting of the CIS Heads of State Council in Bishkek. He
highlighted today’s landmark development of the establishment of Partner and Observer
statuses within the CIS, which marks the transition into a qualitatively new
stage of development. He encouraged the meeting participants to sustain their
active cooperation within the CIS. This will help not only to overcome emerging
challenges but also to enhance the efficiency of interaction.
“Last year, the CIS states
accounted for over a quarter of Kazakhstan’s total trade volume. The country
maintains positive dynamics this year, with a 4.5 percent growth in trade
turnover to $20.5 billion in seven months. We need to take full advantage of
existing opportunities to fortify trade ties,” he said.
Also, Tokayev proposed to develop
a concept for connecting the primary transport routes passing through the CIS
countries. The document will become a new transit and logistics code of Eurasia,
taking into account the interests of the CIS member states. According to the President,
special attention should be paid to the elimination of trade barriers between the
states, creation of favorable tariff conditions and simplification of
administrative procedures. He backed the decision on Russia’s chairmanship of
the CIS in 2024 and the plan to host the summit in Moscow next autumn. He also
welcomed Kyrgyzstan’s initiative to award President of Uzbekistan Shavkat
Mirziyoyev with the CIS Badge of Honor.
