Water security issues are of great importance
in Kazakhstan. Efforts are currently underway to enhance resilience to floods
and inundations. As President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev recently emphasized at the One
Water Summit in Riyadh, strengthening early warning systems is essential for
reducing risks and protecting the population. Forecasting also plays a
significant role in this regard. Notably, Kazakhstan is actively collaborating
with the Netherlands in this area. During the summer and autumn, Dutch experts
conducted seminars in Astana on flood prevention and training water sector
specialists.
«I think the challenge is for the future where
the Netherlands and Kazakhstan will work together to make sure that also in the
future you can make this kind of calculations in a much bigger area. Due to
climate change we will face more of this kind of challenges. And that is the challenge
at hand for the Ministry and the Netherlands stands ready to work with the Ministry
on that task. Many donors are active in Kazakhstan. And I think the Ministry
demonstrates with this Council that the Coordination is taken by the Ministry at
hand,» noted Nico Schermers, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to
Kazakhstan.
Notably, the Coordination Council of Partners
for Water Sector Development in the country includes representatives from the
United Nations, international organizations, financial institutions, as well as
representatives of foreign development agencies, the diplomatic corps, and the
business community.
