Today, Kazakhstan celebrates
Korisu Kuni, or Amal holiday. It is noteworthy that in ancient times, March 14
was considered the beginning of the new year. On this day, people congratulate
each other on the arrival of spring, exchange good wishes, and show honor and
respect to the older generation. While the tradition of celebrating this
holiday has predominantly been preserved in the western regions of Kazakhstan,
it is now gaining popularity across the entire country. Korisu Kuni is widely
celebrated by Kazakhs in the Syr Darya, Kostanai, and Torgai regions, as well
as in the Russian regions of Astrakhan, Saratov, Samara, and Orenburg. Amal
Meiramy traditionally involves setting a rich dastarkhan and cooking national
dishes.
