Kazakhstan introduces video guide project for tourists

Kazakh Tourism National Company, in collaboration with the popular Chinese social media app TikTok, has launched a special project to promote tourism development in Kazakhstan through a dedicated video guide. It features a virtual assistant on the platform, providing information about landmarks, cultural establishments, and gastronomic hotspots across the country. The organizers are optimistic that this will encourage both residents and visitors to explore Kazakhstan more. All people are invited to participate in the campaign, which is initially being launched in Astana and Shymkent, with other cities joining later. People can share details about their favorite places and offer recommendations.

“Based on the results of this project, an interactive map will be available on the TikTok platform. Users will be able to log on and select a region to explore a compilation of diverse videos created by participants using the hashtag #GuideToKazakhstan. User-generated content is always more interesting than conventional presentations. We want every resident of their region to create content about their favorite local spots, exactly as they see it. To date, we see hundreds of videos uploaded under various hashtags in different cities of Kazakhstan,” said Kazakh Tourism Deputy Chairman Kairat Sadvakassov.

This is not the first joint project between Kazakh Tourism and TikTok. Previously, an online festival highlighting the spring celebration, the Day of Equinox, took place on the digital platform. Every resident of the country could showcase how they celebrate it in their city using the hashtag #Nauryz2023, share recipes for festive treats, or talk about interesting traditions. Additionally, there was a contest among TikTok users for the best travel-related story.
