Kazakhstan intends to renew its railway wagon fleet

New production facilities in the field of railway engineering are opening in Kazakhstan. The Stadler Kazakhstan plant has begun operating in Astana and is expected to supply more than 500 modern passenger cars for Kazakhstan railways by 2030. In the Atyrau region, a plant with an annual capacity of 6,000 freight wagons and tank cars has been launched. A new production line for open wagons has also been introduced in Semei, while a cluster of enterprises for the production of railway equipment and components has been established in Ekibastuz. Overall, sector output grew by a quarter last year, exceeding 600 billion tenge. To renew the wagon fleet, the relevant ministry proposes expanding production capacity, increasing subsidies for purchases from domestic manufacturers, and concluding long-term off-take contracts.

«Off-take contracts will make it possible to guarantee a stable volume of orders for domestic manufacturers and ensure planned utilization of production capacities. At the same time, railcar manufacturing enterprises will be required to increase the level of production localization. The Ministry has begun work on a draft industrial assembly agreement, which will apply to all types of rolling stock,» noted Kazakh Minister of Industry and Construction Yersayin Nagaspayev.
