Up to 600,000 tonnes of fish can be grown annually in the reservoirs of Kazakhstan. This result is planned to be achieved in stages. For example, almost half of the plan will be executed in 10 years, and the rest will be implemented by 2040. Kazakh government adopted the program for the development of the fishing industry in the country.
“Under the program, it is planned to produce nearly 270,000 tonnes of marketable fish per year by 2030. 545 new fish farms will be created and 323 operating farms will reach full capacity,” said Magzum Mirzagaliyev, Kazakh Minister of Ecology, Geology and Natural Resources.
It is planned to attract 345 billion tenge (US$821.4 million) of private investments to implement these projects. According to the relevant ministry, such measures will provide the domestic market with domestic fish food and reduce the volume of export products. Kazakh Prime Minister instructed to ensure the timely implementation of the measures provided in the adopted sectoral program.
“Fish exports currently amount to 30 tonnes and are expected to increase to 136 tonnes per year by 2030. Thus, increased production will reduce imports from 45 to 25 tonnes per year. Domestic fish consumption will increase twofold. In addition, the development of the fishing industry has the potential to create up to 50,000 jobs,” said Kazakh Prime Minister Askar Mamin.
The program is expected to increase fish production in the country thirtyfold.
