The French Development Agency (AFD) will allocate grants for projects in Kazakhstan. The Senate, the Upper House of the Kazakh Parliament, has ratified the relevant agreement. The document outlines the legal, tax, and financial conditions for the agency’s operations in the country. The agency plans to allocate 945,000 euros to the healthcare sector, 1.3 million euros for the preservation of Lake Balkhash, and nearly 2.5 million euros for educational initiatives in the schools of the Aral Sea region. Additionally, technical assistance will support the expansion of the Aktau port and the construction of power transmission lines. The international institution has already financed over 4,000 initiatives across 115 countries, all aimed at improving the quality of life for people.
«The French Development Agency primarily finances infrastructure projects in the energy, transport, and public utilities sectors. The financial institution is also considering funding a range of infrastructure projects, including those in the water supply, sanitation, and irrigation sectors. The agency also supports the establishment of a credit line for women’s entrepreneurship and the allocation of grants and technical assistance to projects,» said Bibigul Zheksenbai, member of the Senate, the Upper House of the Kazakh Parliament.
Today, Senate members approved a number of other laws. Among them is the creation of free trade zones with Iran and Singapore by the EAEU countries. The documents aim to expand trade and economic cooperation between the parties. The agreements include a duty-free trade regime for 90 percent of goods, and the countries commit to not imposing unjustified bans and restrictions on many of these goods.
«The two agreements reviewed were developed with the aim of expanding trade and economic cooperation. They provide for the creation of favorable conditions for promoting goods to new markets and attracting investments to EAEU member states. To achieve this, the issues of customs administration, intellectual property, and information exchange between the parties have been comprehensively addressed,» noted Maulen Ashimbayev, Chairperson of the Senate, the Upper House of the Kazakh Parliament.
