Kazakhstan increases science funding by 3.5-fold

Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev received the President of the National Academy of Sciences, Akhylbek Kurishbayev, who reported on the outcomes of the Academy’s activities over the past year.  In 2024, an assessment of the state of domestic science was conducted, and priority areas for its development were identified. Three integrated interdisciplinary scientific and technical programs were developed. President Tokayev set a number of tasks for the National Academy of Sciences, emphasizing the need for ongoing systemic measures to enhance scientific potential. He noted that the science sector is receiving support, as evidenced by a 3.5-fold increase in funding, the adoption of the new law «On Science and Technology Policy», and the provision of housing for young scientists. Recently, the Head of State signed a decree granting the National Academy of Sciences the status of the highest scientific organization under the President of Kazakhstan.
