Kazakhstan views Congo as an
important partner on the African continent. The historic visit of President of
the Republic of the Congo Denis Sassou Nguesso to Kazakhstan, ahead of the 25th
anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, will provide new
impetus to bilateral ties and enhance cooperation between Central Asia and
Africa. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev emphasized this during today’s talks.
There is great potential for collaboration between the two countries,
particularly in trade, economy, agriculture, logistics, industry, new
technologies, and mining.
«We agreed to instruct the governments of the
two countries to take specific measures to increase mutual trade volumes. Kazakhstan
has great potential for exporting grain crops to Congo. As you know, our
countries are rich in natural resources. There are opportunities for
cooperation in the exploration and development of iron, phosphate, bauxite, and
other rare earth mineral deposits. I emphasized the readiness of Kazakh
entrepreneurs to engage in Congo’s mining industry,» Tokayev said.
The countries aim to expand their
partnership in the transport and logistics sector as well. The Port of
Pointe-Noire offers significant opportunities, serving as a gateway to the
Central African region. According to the President of the Congo, the
development of the energy sector is another promising area for cooperation.
«Our country’s economy is based on the oil
industry, and Kazakhstan has significant experience in this field. We
can also collaborate on the development of other natural resources. Congo’s
energy sector is ready to offer great opportunities to Kazakh companies,» Sassou
Nguesso said.
The heads of state also discussed the successful
cooperation within global and regional organizations, emphasizing their shared
positions on many topical issues, such as the fight against climate change. During
the Congo Republic President’s first visit to Kazakhstan, the parties signed 10
documents, including agreements and memoranda of cooperation in the oil and gas
industry, mining and geology, and remote sensing. Furthermore, Kazakhstan is
set to appoint an ambassador to Congo to further enhance collaboration, as
announced today by President Tokayev.
