Kazakhstan is ready to expand the list of products supplied
to China and increase grain export volumes. Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov and
Chinese Ambassador to Kazakhstan Han Chunlin discussed bilateral trade and
economic cooperation. The parties noted that trade turnover between the two
countries reached approximately $44 billion last year, with plans to double
this figure. Freight volumes have also increased, rising by 13% over the first
11 months of 2024 to exceed 29 million tonnes. Developing this potential is an
important aspect of the mutually beneficial partnership. To support the growth
of freight traffic, it is necessary to open new border checkpoints and
modernize existing ones, as well as explore opportunities for cross-border
shipping, the parties emphasized. China is among the top five investors in
Kazakhstan. The two countries have implemented 62 projects worth $8.7 billion,
while an additional 55 projects totaling $13.5 billion are currently underway.
Overall, the investment pool between the two nations includes more than 200
projects worth $60.5 billion.
