The Climate Change Action Plan of the Central Asia Regional
Economic Cooperation (CAREC) Program will be presented at COP29, the upcoming
UN conference in Baku next week. This was announced in Astana during the 23rd
CAREC Ministerial Conference, which this year focuses on regional energy
security and climate change issues. Participants included CAREC countries,
development partners, and representatives from the Asian Development Bank
(ADB). The latter signed an agreement with South Korea and China to establish a
trust fund for green project development in Central Asia. The countries
allocated $5 million. As a CAREC member, Kazakhstan will have access to these
funds to develop regional climate projects.
«This is just the beginning; we have what we call seed
money. We will be working with a large number of donors to secure grant funds
and prepare regional projects focused on sustainability, climate change, green
initiatives, decarbonization, and more. The ADB’s commitment is to assist all
its member countries, particularly developing countries, by providing up to
$100 billion in financing by 2030,» said Lyaziza Sabyrova, ADB Regional Head
for Regional Cooperation and Integration in the Central and West Asia
Department.
