This month, the new
grain terminal, whose construction has been completed at the Kuryk port, will handle
its first batch of wheat. It is currently operating in test mode. The terminal
has an annual capacity of one million tonnes. According to its management, the
project will increase the volume of grain exports to other countries, further
strengthening Kazakhstan's position as a key transport hub in the region.
Notably, over 80 percent of cargo from China and Central Asia to Europe passes
through the Kuryk port. It is part of the Trans-Caspian International Transport
Route, which significantly accelerates and simplifies regional logistics. This
year, more than 1.5 million tonnes of goods have already been transported
through the port. The plan is to increase this volume to 2.3 million tonnes by
the end of December. Since 2017, the port has handled over 10 million tonnes of
cargo.
«Due to the current
geopolitical conditions, the importance of the Middle Corridor is high compared
to the Northern and Southern corridors. Transport turnover is also growing year
by year. This year, it has already amounted to 18,000 vehicles,» noted Bakytkerei
Alibekov, Deputy General Director for the Kuryk port operations.
