Kazakhstan is set to enhance the
transportation infrastructure by developing special economic zones in airports
to streamline cargo flows. According to the country’s Civil Aviation Committee,
these zones will be established in airports of Astana, Almaty, Shymkent, Aktau,
Aktobe, and Karagandy. This is a common international practice. As the capacity
of automobile checkpoints at the Kazakhstan-China border is growing, the
customs services of both countries have agreed to transition the largest Nur
Zholy checkpoint to operate round-the-clock, with others adopting a daily
12-hour schedule. Kazakhstan is currently undertaking a comprehensive modernization
and technical upgrade of ten border crossing points with China, Uzbekistan, and
Turkmenistan, along with the main dispatching center in Astana. An increase in
the number of lanes for entry and exit is expected to amplify throughput
capacity sixfold.
