Kazakhstan begins deepening Caspian seabed to develop TITR

Dredging work has begun at the Aktau port to deepen the Caspian seabed. This will create conditions for further expansion of terminal capacity and enhance the safety of maritime traffic. The seabed is planned to be deepened by 1.5 to 2 meters, with work scheduled for completion by the end of this year. According to the Ministry of Transport, the deepening of the Caspian Sea is part of a set of measures aimed at developing the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route and is intended to support growing freight volumes. Currently, the throughput capacity of Kazakhstan’s Aktau port stands at around 15 million tonnes of cargo per year. In the first three months of 2025, container shipments along the Trans-Caspian corridor increased 3.5-fold.
